Good for them! You can't learn or work in that environment.

Those conditions are not safe so I give kudos to them for walking out. That is ridiculous.

+1,000,000.

The council should call an emergency meeting and get DGS to explain publicly.

Who is responsible for maintenance, DGS or DCPS? I'm not even sure.

DC DGS.

DGS is a joke when it comes to maintenance. So many issues as so many buildings and parks.

Staff was told this morning if they need a bathroom to go to middle school 3 blocks away.

That's just crazy.

I’m sorry for those students and teachers. It’s bullshit.

I know Anacostia High School is not particularly popular among DCUMers, but I'm surprised nobody has posted about the walk out at the high school today. So, I'll do it myself. Apparently, staff and students arrived at school today to find either no water or very little water running in the school. According to one teacher, only 2 out of 14 bathrooms were working. Reports also say the cafeteria was flooded and breakfast could not be served. In response, both students and staff staged a walk out. According to State Board of Education member Markus Batchelor who met with WTU members from the school, the school has a long record of neglect by the central office and frustration has been building for some time.

Chancellor Alexander tweeted that she is on her way to the school to hear directly from students and staff. Anacostia High School underwent a $63 million renovation in 2013, but like many of the renovated buildings, has had continual maintenance issues. There is plenty of information about this on Twitter.
