I worked at a place like that in New England. Children emerged from the program stronger and "sturdier".
It was a blessing for them and their families.

We worked with Tom Harvey at the School Counseling Group in DC. His specialty is therapeutic school placements.

I would welcome recommendations for educational consultants with expertise in this area.

CALO is coed, but its program is geared specifically toward adopted kids and attachment issues.

There is also New Leaf Academy (girls only) in Oregon.

Yes, we are researching two schools in NC, probably one of the same. They specialize in middle school girls.

I do not know the name but there is a therapeutic boarding school in North Carolina. A classmate of my daughter's in middle school left in 7th grade to attend a therapeutic boarding school in NC. I remember talking to the mother and she described the same symptoms that your daughter is experiencing. This was two years ago and I believe she is still there although I have not checked in with the mother lately. I suspect it is expensive because funds were not at issue for the family. I also know another family who sent their daughter to a therapeutic boarding school in NC but don't know the name. I suspect it is the same one but I never asked because I did not want to be intrusive. Maybe if you do a Google search or inquire with a psychiatrist or social worker, they will be able to give you a referral. I wish your daughter the best but you are doing the right thing by seeking options to get her the care and support she needs now before the high school years.

When I was looking for residential programs for my son (who has the same profile as your daughter), I called my insurance company and surprisingly, much of the cost was covered. However, I found that some of the schools would not accept my son without back up of Medicaid.

I completely limited my search to places covered by my insurance and within about two hours from my home, so this is not an exhaustive list. In the end, we did not have to go this route, so I have no personal experience with these facillities. From what I recall, at least some required a doctor to order admission, but that could be my insurance requirement.

I was also looking at Northstar Academy for a more intensive partial hospitalization program. I think they offer a broad range of services. They are in Rockville and are easy to find on Google.
