Ugh. We are a one car family and the big plus of this neighborhood was walkability.

It looks like about a mile walk from the cheesecake factory either on 14th or up the stairs. At our neighborhood school almost everyone drives at that distance especially with an infant/toddler. Nobody walks for almost an hour to drop off a K child especially in bad weather. Reality will hit you after about the 2nd day of school.

Kirkwood is a trafficnightmare and aesthetically unattractive to boot.

Op it looks like your question has devolved into a fight between cherrydale and the current asfs boundary.
I walk every day from Clarendon so I know your route well. You have three options:
1. Cut through Lyon village (Hartford—> Jackson) to the asfs back stairs. You can either ditch your stroller at the foot of the stairs and carry your baby at that point, or just wear the baby the entire 0.7 mile walk from Clarendon. I would suggest just wearing the baby because the stairs are a little steep for a kindergartener.
2. Cut through Lyon villAge and cross kirkwood at 13th st. You’d want to do something like highland—> 13th to the hidden hill—> lynnbrook. 14th does not have a sidewalk you can use a stroller on. Anyone telling you otherwise does not walk that street regularly.
3. Cut through Lyon village and cross kirkwood at wash blvd and kirkwood. I wouldn’t do this personally because it isn’t well lit, there aren’t a lot of pedestrians, and so cars go very fast through the intersection. You want to avoid the intersection by st Charles and the one by north side if you can.
Or you can just have your kid take the bus home.

Monumentally moronic? Because people in Lyon Village have to walk up a steep hill if they want to walk to school? The ASFS building has housed a school for Lyon Village residents for over 40 years. Get over yourself.

Baby carrier for the steps

Or kiss your kid goodbye at the bottom of the steps. Kindergarteners do not need to be walked into the building/to their classroom by mommy and/or daddy.

There’s no need to lash out like this.

Depending on where you are in LV, cross at 14th and walk up Kirkwood to 13th, or walk on Washington Blvd and cross Kirkwood with a light.

I hate that little twisty bit of 13th -- neither cars nor pedestrians seem aware of the other's existence.

Isn't it right off of the Custis trail? So you could take the Custis from Lyon Village and then just head up the trail to Lincoln St. There are entrances to the trail from both sides of the street - ASFS and Hayes park.

You can take a longer route by going down a hill with no sidewalk over by the y. I do it with my kids every day because I wear their little brother and have trouble going up and down the stairs wearing a baby. I think the route is 13th to lynnbrooke to 14th to Lincoln.
I hate that hill though. It’s not safe, my kids have almost been run over a few times. I don’t have time to get the car on my way back from work and still make daycare pickup in time, and if I started driving to work the cost of parking plus daycare would be more than my paycheck.
You can come back in a few months and tell us your honest opinion about kirkwood

I wouldn’t do that for K. Maybe a little older.

Eh that is a bit of long lonely walk for K. After that is fine.

I see people walk from clarendon but they cross at Washington Blvd with the light, and the walk up 14th still will suck.
