I was responding to PPs comment that said some people go even with older child already in the program to see who is incoming child/parent to clarify because I know in the past some parents from feeder schools would just show up, and we didn’t have a sign up sheet .


Nobody here is talking about what you are talking about. I’m OP. I am talking about parents of older kids in AAP AND a newly admitted 2nd grader. I figured they may be less likely to go as they are already familiar with the program. The people responding understood that and are responding accordingly. I am eager to know, for social reasons, who is in.

Each time one of our kids was admitted we went. Why is that hard for you to understand? We went even though we had gone in the past for our older kids. We wanted to see who was admitted with our newly admitted child. We don't go unless we get the letter to go. Orientation has a sign up sheet. You can't go unless your name I on the list anyway or unless you are asked to speak to prospective parents, which we have been asked to do but always decline.

This is not true. Anyone can attend AAP orientation. The sign in sheet is just for the school's information. I see this myth perpetuated on here year after year and I wanted to set the record straight.

I have 4 kids in AAP and hope my 5th gets in. We go to every orientation, eventhough we know everything. We go to see what other kids got in. Plus, maybe one year they may talk about doing something new (they haven't yet)

I have only seen prospective students attending but I’ve seen prospective kids in the older grades attend (who didn’t attend in 3rd grade etc.). The only already attending kids I have seen attend are ones speaking at the event.

I think you have to ask someone who is attending to tell you who was admitted.

I agree. It's a mix. Some with older kids who are in will attend, but some will not.

Some parents with children already in the program attend (mainly to see who else may be going with their child or is there is a change) and some stay home. It is mainly new parents in the AAP program that attend, regardless of where their child currently attends.

Does everyone who has a child admitted attend AAP orientation? Specifically I am worndering about parents with older kids in the program and parents of kids at the center as their base.
