Get the CeraVe foaming facial cleanser and the matching moisturizing lotion. We were recommended it by our derm. Easy, effective, available at any drugstore, and has a neutral smell.

Start by making sure he's actually using that soap.

Do boys care about skin the way girls do? Maybe get him a Clarisonic?

My 14 year old DS has found that benzoyl perioxide works better for him than products that contain salicylic acid. He plays a lot of sports and tends to get acne along his hairline where he sweats. The Neutrogena BP-based products have helped and he says the scent is not offensive.

Visine takes the redness out of zits and is much less expensive.

Check out Dermalogica’s Clear Start: breakout clearing set.

I’ve seen it recently in CVS (use up those CVS coupons) and also the standards (bluemercury, Sephora, Nordstrom, etc.)

If you just want one product, my DH loves Dermalogica’s pre-cleanse oil. It has helped him with oily skin and breakouts. I’ve seen pre-cleanse at all the locations listed above.

If Dermalogica’s is too pricey, try Trader Joe.

My nearly 13 yr old just started breaking out along his forehead. He now uses the Cetaphil foaming cleanser and it is pretty much gone. I also bought him a spot treatment from Neutrogena but I am pretty sure he doesn't remember to put it on every night.

Tea tree oil works well and has natural anti bacterial properties.

Go for something gentle that won’t dry out his skin. Drying it out makes acne worse, and teen boys aren’t necessarily going to follow through with a moisturizer. My DS likes the Aveeno products, and in the dry winter months I usually buy him the Fresh soy cleanser. It’s more expensive but really great for cleaning the skin without drying it.

Take a look at the Murad skin clarifying supplement vitamins as well.

Korean stuff from YADAH or skinfood egg line. My 12yo son had bad acne developing esp. along hairline from sweating during sports.
Neutrogena didn’t work for DS, too drying. the stridex even worse with flaking, irritation and redness.

DS's skin is starting to show signs of very minor typical teenage acne flare ups. Right now he does nothing special for skincare - just washes face (supposedly) in the shower with the regular bar soap. I'd like to get him some cleanser and moisturizer specifically for his face. Any recommendations?
