CMI parents are sworn to secrecy and promised not to tell......

In all seriousness, I have a friend who was a teacher - the founder needs to go BUT ......... Founders get to make their own rules.

I wish I knew how to garden.

“When the founder leaves”

Any sense that she is considering leaving or that the Board will ask her to?

I went to the emergency town hall on staff retention at Cmi last night. Just this school year — in the middle of the school year— they lost 7 teachers and 6 administrators. The teachers at CMI are mostly great (except the ps 3 teacher who was too new and frazzled to handle a horrible mix of rowdy kids). The problem, however is the school’s founder/Director. Until she leaves, all the hr consultants in the world won’t make a difference. She is cold and toxic. That said, cmi is not a horrible school.. it’s going through growing pains and it’s showing big time. They need support and help. I’m confident that it can live up to its own standards again when the founder leaves .

Yes, there has been a lot of turnover this year, but no need for histrionics when looking at the job listings. Keep in mind:

They are looking to hire full-time speech and OT rather than contract out.

They are adding a grade to middle school.

The elementary grade with 3 classes needs an additional lead teacher and aides every year as they move up.

There will be 500 students next year. Between admin, teachers, student aides, and the large number of inclusion specialists and therapists, an HR manager is needed.

Admin assistant is a new position.

The P/T garden coordinator is grant-funded.

So some positions are filling vacancies, but others are new positions due to growth.

Two Rivers enrollment for 17-18 = 812 students

CMI enrollment for 17-18 = 441 students

OP I wouldn't be too concerned. Every school creates a pool for instructional and leadership positions as contingency to build a pool early should they need to fill a position. Most schools don't require formal intent to return from teachers until Early-Mid April. Some of these are likely positions they know they will need to fill, some are new, and some are just pool building.

I keep wondering how things got so bad at that Washington Math and Science charter. When does the PCSB actually step in to deal with a school in crisis before it ist oo late?

No affiliation with CMI but LMAO at you for your drama. People move on.

I am indifferent to CM - but think about it ......
what grade does CMI go through right now? are they adding another grade so they need more MS teachers?

Are they moving their services from contracting a speech and OT to internal?

These are not necessarily flags.

Meh. I don't think it looks like that many vacancies. DC is a transient city. CMI is a long way from closing

A part-time garden coordinator? A human resources manager?

These are very unusual positions for a school of this size. Raises even more questions

They won't step in unless they fall to low Tier 2 or 3 or their books don't balance.

The turnover and low teacher salaries are under the purview of the CMI Board of Directors.
