just go to giant and buy an ezpass flex.
register it to your account and you'llbe fine.
onc eyou get the rental car info register the car to that flex
once they are gone. make sure you take the rental car off your account.
if you end up keeping the flex, you can send your old ezpass back to their place in clifton for a refund.

And the rental company will usually charge fees for using it (in addition to regular toll charges.)

Most airport locations, yes, but I know my small town Enterprise location doesn't have them. I'd call ahead and check with the location and that's really the easiest route unless you've been wanting to get yourself a flex pass.
Apparently, according to the fine print, you're not actually supposed to move your EZ pass from your registered car to a rental car without de-registering your car and registering the rental car. You're also not supposed to move your EZ pass from say the wife's car to the husband's car; it's always supposed to remain in the car to which it's registered.
You can add rental cars to your ezpass without taking your personal car off. We have 1 ez pass for our two cars with both listed and we have added rentals too. You just have to remember to take the rental off or you could be charged in the future for that license plate. Some e-tolls allow you to pay in-line without having an ezpass..not sure how it works in VA though

I don't believe you need to de-register your car, you just need to add the rental car information. This is from VA's EZ Pass page:
To ensure seamless use of the E-ZPass transponders in any of your vehicles, you should include the license plate number, state of registration, vehicle type, vehicle make, model, year and color of all your vehicles. You can email vehicle changes to customerservice@ezpassva.com
I have two transponders, and both are connected to all of my cars and can be switched as needed. (One is a Flex and one is not.)

We have houseguests coming in April - they will be staying at our house in Falls Church and going into DC every day for a class. I had suggested metro but they prefer to drive because they think it'll be quicker. My first thought was to warn them about the tolls - back roads won't be much quicker than metro. However, they will have 3 people in the car every day. If I get myself an EZ Pass Flex, can they use it in the rental car? I currently have a normal EZ Pass but seems like I can upgrade to the Flex with no issues.
