Subject: ID for TSA at airport: Problem with middle initial on ID and full middle name on ticket?
If you booked through a travel agent, they should be able to make a minor name change without a fee. I used American Express and they worked with Delta/Air France to get the change done for free. When I tried on my own, AF told me something utterly outrageous, hundreds of dollars, to add one letter to DH's first name.

Just allow extra time. If you can get through TSA without ID, and you can, you can do this.

This happened to my husband. He had no problem flying out of the US, but he did get a close questioning in Spain before the flight back. This was 3 years ago, so they could be more strict now. Can’t you just call the airline and have them change the middle name on the ticket?

Ask TSA on Twitter. Or get a name change done to the ticket. It's minor so they may do it without fee.

A foreign national household member will be getting a new ID before flying that will have a middle initial in the name, and not a full middle name. We have a domestic ticket for her using the full middle name.
This TSA article from 2009 says it should be the same -- ID and ticket, but that in the "near term" they are flexible on middle initials versus full names on IDs and tickets.
