with that logic, i guess teenagers don't need phones either lol or anyone for that matter. just ask your boss at work to call home.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:I think we are getting my 8 year old one for camp. Why is it such a big deal?
Why does he need one? Genuinely curious. Not being snarky.
To contact us. Its not a local camp and we will be staying in a hotel/him going daily. How else can he contact us?
Why does he need to contact you directly? Counselors and/or administrative staff can call you. That's how it's been for decades, and it's been fine.
then get him a basic phone, not a smartphoneAnonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:I think we are getting my 8 year old one for camp. Why is it such a big deal?

1. poster said their child was a boy, so why assume that?
2. can't speak for them but i was coming home alone at 8 years old. i think a phone is good just in case. what if the kid can't get inside or is staying after school?
Its a boy. I would never leave him home alone nor does he want to stay along. We are traveling and together during the day. We keep a home phone but if child was alone at all, I would absolutely give them a phone. For the little cost, it gives me peace of mind. The phone isn't the issue. Its how they use the phone that is.
