I've been using one for years. I have a hard time reading detailed documents that are printed out since I'm moving, but find that I'm better/more efficient at drafting and reviewing while I'm walking. According to my fitbit, it burns about 500 extra calories a day, which has kept me from the middle-aged spread I'm fighting. Since you aren't really sweating and getting your heart rate very high, it doesn't translate to the ability to run a 5K, at least for me.
