Middle school. Maybe a little tinted lip gloss in 6th grade. Even now, she only wears makeup 1-2 times a month. She doesn’t want to wake up early to put it on.

When she decided to start wearing all black and accent with? black nail polish and black eyeliner. I think she was 14. She spent the whole year borrowing my clothes and my cuffs from Hot Topic. I think she stole a pair of my bondage pants and a bunch of my favorite band t-shirts.

MY 9th grader has only worn makeup once to a dance. SHe,s also more of a sporty type, and is fortunate to have really great skin and natural coloring to her lips.

The summer before her HS freshman year, I asked my daughter if she wanted to go meet with a make-up consultant and buy some make-up. She said yes, so I took her to the Clinique counter where she had a brief consult (asked for the 'natural' look) and bought her the basics (eye shadow, eye liner, mascara, blush, concealer, some sheer lip stick). She's almost 16 now and rarely wears make-up. If going out with friends or to a dance, she will put some on; day to day for school, she doesn't. She's a sporty kid, if that matters. When she wears make-up, she looks older and more put-together, but I really let her decide when/if to wear it and so far, she's shown little interest. She dresses casually (usually jeans or leggings to school) and usually wears her hair up in a bun or ponytail, but she cares about her appearance and I think looks nice when she leaves the house. She just looks younger and less sophisticated than some of the girls I see who have make-up on. That's def not a problem in my mind.

Probably around 8th or 9th grade. But it wasn't really much makeup at all. Mainly mascara and tinted chapstick. She started wearing more around 10th grade b/c she was using concealer to cover up acne. So add concealer/powder to that routine. It seems like most girls follow roughly the same timeline/amount. She told me that most girls keep it simple because they don't want to waste their "good makeup" for school.

Just wondering, thanks.
