I have been told that GW gives places to the schools and the school personnel choose the recipient

There have been more charter students win the award in past years, and even some private school kids. It's not a DCPS scholarship.

Regardless, it's nice to read about some great students at some of the schools that DCUM doesn't pay attention to.

From what I know it actually started as a DCPS scholarship ONLY. Here is a link to the scholarship info https://undergraduate.admissions.gwu.edu/sjt.

Because back when it started there weren’t any charters graduates.

Both.

"Graduating high school seniors in the District of Columbia who have submitted a complete application for admission to GW and are nominated by their high school counselor afterward are eligible for the scholarship."

Of course they found a couple hard workers in the crap schools. That is the entire point of the scholarship. Stilling going to be a very uphill battle for those kids being dropped in the very rich and very Bro environment that is GWU. So close to home but might as well be on a separate planet. Better hope their study habits are equal with the grades those schools put on their report cards.

Incredibly RUDE and disrespectful. I know DCPS graduates who received this scholarship and FINISHED.. debt free.

Kudos to them! You're a jerk.
