no, you are not supposed to flush tampons. not sure why you'd need a "ton" of toilet paper, just wrap it in a normal amount and then... put it in the bathroom trash....not sure why this is weird?? obviously you would have a trash bag/liner in the trash can and should empty it regularly.

I didn’t know for many years that they weren’t to be flushed. For some reason I knew pads shouldn’t be but somehow tampons seemed different. My old house growing up had a septic tank so I thank my lucky stars we never had any problems. That would be mortifying. I now wrap in toilet paper and discard.

I've never flushed one in my entire life. And I don't use that much toilet paper to wrap them.

We visited a sewage processing plant. Unless your home plumbing is bad, your tampons find their home just fine at the plant. They get bowling balls and limbs there.

I did ONCE and it clogged up and flooded the basement and it was so embarrassing when the plumber pulled it out of the pipe in front of my husband. This was a new build townhouse.

If you live in an old DC rowhouse, you should wrap in TP and throw in the garbage. DO NOT FLUSH.

Our line from the house down to the main sewer line under the street got clogged. We had our plumbers do an emergency snaking, since water was backing up in all our basement drains.

The plumber pulled out a tangle of tampons and sanitary pads the size of a softball. IT WAS DISGUSTING and had caused a total blockage.

I also just moved into an old home and had the same thoughts. I have always flushed them but my parents house had new plumbing and then I was a renter for many years and never thought about it. Now that we own the a house with a very old main water line I have stopped. So far I just wrap them in toilet paper but frankly it’s pretty gross. I’m thinking of switching to the diva cup

I stopped using them over 10 years ago. I had a diva cup, but I prefer Softcups by Instead now. Empty and rinse it in the shower twice a day. Throw it out after your period is done. Use a fresh one next period. 1 box is like $8 and lasts over a year.

I just moved into an old house, and it occurred to me that I should probably stop flushing tampons. Then I thought about it and realized I probably never should have in the first place. If you don’t flush them though, what do you do with them? Wrap in a ton of toilet paper? All options seem weird.
