The movie about the boy from India who gets on a train and ends up thousand miles away... gets adopted (Nicole Kidman) by a family in New Zealand... grows up and searches for his family in India. I think it came to DVD last year.

Good show.

The Big Sick was another good one.

The Martian is fabulous.

We both loved Arrival and The Martian.

For stupid and gross but still funny, there's always Sausage Party. Actually, the trailer alone is enough.

Hot tub time machine fan here - we both enjoyed “the house” and “masterminds”

Anonymous wrote:Thor Ragnarok. It's funny and PG-13 (I also hate violent movies). In that theme: Guardians of the Galaxy and, if you haven't seen it, the oldie Galaxy Quest.

I haven't seen Whisky Tango Foxtrot yet, but it looks funny and I like Tina Fey. We just finished the TV series The Unbreakable Kimmi Schmidt which is outstanding.

I agree there haven't been a lot of funny movies recently; here are some early 2000s ones that I like and will re-watch:
Forgetting Sarah Marshall
Best in Show
Harold & Kumar
40 Y/O Virgin
Bottle Shock

Definitely Thor Ragnarok. DH and I both really enjoyed it even though we thought the previous two Thor movies were pretty blah.

What about some of the Oscar winners? Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri, The Shape of Water, etc?

Also, I've been wanting to watch Murder on the Orient Express. It wasn't something I would have paid money to see in a theater, but I'd watch on a small screen.

Moonrise Kingdom is good. So is Chef.

we just saw Home Again, and it was cute. Sort of a chick flick but not really - it's about a 40-year-old divorcee who lets three 20-somethings move into her guest house, and the boys become part of the family.

We also saw Geostorm, which kind of compared to "The Day After Tomorrow" or "2012."

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot was pretty funny. And i recently rewatched Trainwreck and didn't dislike it like I did the first time.

The new Spiderman was very good and I rarely like superhero movies.

Any good movie suggestions that both spouses have liked? We have HBO, Amazon prime, and Netflix - but I also don’t mind renting movies On Demand.

The movies can be new or old.

Here are some caveats: DH doesn’t like chick flicks (so I’ll have to watch pitch perfect 3 without him, for example). I don’t like really violent movies.

Is it just me or have there not been so many funny movies lately?

We liked silly movies like Hot tub time machine and we’re the millers. The last movie we rented was Wonder Woman. Lady Bird is on tap.

Thanks for any ideas! We haven’t seen all that many movies lately (3 kids ages 8 & under).
