We used to get hassled when our kid was under 2 and we didn't pay for a seat. The airlines thought we were lying that she was under 2. I always carried her birth certificate to shut up the annoying airlines people. Can they find anyone ruder to work for the airlines? I don't think so.

The only time I’ve seen them be strict is on a flight to Orlando that was chock-full of kids. On that flight they did enforce one parent with one kid 6 or under. On most flights, you won’t have any problem with both kids and both parents doing family boarding.
And as a Pp said, if they do question you, just honestly say that she is 6 (they can verify on their system if they really care, but I can’t imagine they’d take the time to do that.)

They have let me and my then 8 year old board with family boarding. I asked they said go ahead. You should be fine.
My DS is also tall and I have never had an issue.

They know her age because you booked her ticket and entered her DOB when you did so.

We don't fly SW ever, but did recently. I totally forgot to check in online early, and we were placed in C. We were pleasantly surprised to find out about family boarding, since it seems most other airlines don't have this. There was no problem boarding with our tall 6yo daughter.

Should not be a problem. We fly with our 8 year old and if we don't get in A, we always do family boarding. Or, we just pay for A for one parent and hold the seats. Once we did the pay for one parent and my husband and son were pulled out of line and told to family board. It depends on the staff but never an issue.

If someone ask, just say "she's 6 and I was told the policy was for 6 and under..."
That's it.

In my experience as a two-mom family, they don't interrogate. I've seen (presumably) extended families with lots of people go through with no questions.

It's family boarding. Everyone goes in together. She's 6, don't worry about her height.

SW family boarding is for ages 6 and under. My 6 yo DD is really tall (50 inches) - she gets it from her dad. Will SW give us a hard time about this? Or just ask us her age. Also can my husband and 8 yo board with us, or just me and the 6 yo.
