The design work isn't difficult and in almost all circumstances the sidewalks are going on public land so there are no legal issues but DDOT expends ridiculous amounts of time on design and public process to appease the loud objectors.

Alternately they may instead expend the funds on sidewalks where they aren't dealing with objections from unhappy residents.


DC proper indeed. There are other things the city could do in the spot: crosswalk, signage, speed bumps... honestly anything!

You didn't say where you are but presuming you are in DC I believe there are 1400 sidewalk gaps in the queue right now.

And the possible problem, from your perspective, is that often filling in these gaps turns out to be highly contentious.

The design work isn't difficult and in almost all circumstances the sidewalks are going on public land so there are no legal issues but DDOT expends ridiculous amounts of time on design and public process to appease the loud objectors.
