He now says he wants to be a cop.

+100 seriously?! Actually, from an older person's perspective, I think the type of man you described often make the best husbands. Some of my friends with high-powered, uber successul husbands may have a lot of money but aren't particularly happy. Those guys are gone a lot.

My DH’s career is becoming impressive and he’s gone a lot, I’m lonely, and our marriage is slowly falling apart. I’m sure there are some good successful husbands out there, but I would rather he just be around for me when I need him.

I’d rather a Schmoe that I have a great life with than an “executive” with a fancy title that I spend my life tiptoeing around - his being a workaholic, a womanizer, a host of other things.

Also, as already stated - if certain jobs impress you so much, why don’t you get that job yourself? If you have one of those jobs already, why aren’t you spending your time reaching further instead of blaming your husband for your discontent?

+1

If you think about it, how much time are we here on the earth? It’s pretty short in the grand scheme of things.

What is his job?

And what do you consider impressive?

Newsflash: women can have their own careers and identities now. Try getting at least one of those.

My husband is an otherwise perfect husband. He is sweet, kind, attentive and over an A+ human.

I have however remained underwhelmed by his career choice. He is at an easy job that isn’t very highly looked upon. And as such, he’s the butt of everyone’s jokes. He also carries himself in such a way that isn’t very attractive. He’s too...Joe Shmoe

I have a hard time with this as my father is the exact opposite. He has a very well known and respected career and commands a room with his presence.

I keep thinking what’s missing and I guess I thought I’d marry a man like my father. Instead I doengraded, majorl.

I know it’s silly but I can’t shake this feeling if discintent.
