Anonymous wrote:Romania. Forget the images of grim Bucharest and the gypsies. It's a fascinating country with beautiful countryside in Transylvania and in Northern Romania. The countryside looks like it'straight out of medieval Europe with fortified churches and wildfowl running around the lanes of the villages. The cities of Transylvania were built during the Austro-Hungarian empire and are gorgeous and historic. The painted monasteries of northern Romania are a true delight. Food is reasonably good and the travel expenses extremely cheap. We were completely blown away by Romania because it far exceeded our expectations (we found it more enjoyable than Hungary).
I also find Oman pretty nifty. If ever doing a layover in Dubai on the way somewhere else, it's worth it to break up the journey with a few days in Oman.
