It is a lie. You look your age. It is just something that people are programmed to say.

Unless you actually are that old, of course!

Some senior discounts start at age 55. Darn right I'll be taking them when I turn 55. Clerks are welcome to ask.

I'm going to say that opposite and say that people mean it when they say it. If someone says you look great for your age, then you do.

It's a compliment unless you're looking to be offended .

I'd be shocked to find a mom in her late 40's or 50's in a preschool setting not because of the way someone looks but because it's unexpected they would be so old.

My friends husband is 25 years older than she is, and I was shocked just because again, I had presumed they were closer in age, not necessarily that he looks that young.

It depends on the age. "for you age" is a crazy thing to say about someone in their 30s or 40s. That's young. You should look young at those ages. Getting into 50s and beyond, sure, could be true.

I’m 50 and a new mom at the school just said this to me. She had wondered why id married such an old guy (I had casually mentioned my husband is 59). She said she had thought I was 35. I don’t think I look that young but I must have looked young enough that she was surprised by my age difference with my husband.

I took that one as a compliment.

My husband was recently very ill and in the hospital for weeks. He lost a lot of weight. The orderly there, at the time of discharge, said to my husband, “your daughter will bring the car around and I will wheel you out.”

That one made me very sad...

A compliment and most of the time it's a lie. 99% of the population looks their age or even older, and everyone thinks they look younger...

I think it's a compliment.

Scratch your face with an extended middle finger while looking at who ever told you that.

Compliments. And generally not true.

Compliments? Or, insults?
