Summer teams, yes. Winter teams, yes and no, in a good way. Teammates don't get mad at you if you aren't the fastest; they cheer you on to do your best.

yes and no. Yes, you are competing as a team in terms of trying to score points for your team and there is team camaraderie, but with the exception of relays, you are really a solo athlete. Your team can lose the meet, but you can still have a great meet and win your events. I think it is kind of the best of both worlds; you get the team support, but your personal success is not dependent on others.

Only loosely. Relays feel like a team competition, but aside from that a kid could go to a meet and never interact with anyone else from the “team.” There is socializing outside of the swimming, and some cheering for other swimmers, but there is no actual teamwork aside from relays.

Definitely a team sport in my book but my kids will not swim because they said it doesn’t feel like a team sport to them. They feel that when you’re actually in the water, you are solo. They like the constant interaction between players in a field sport. They feel the same with track (which I’ve been trying hard to get them involved in). They have many cousins who swim competitively and run track. Their cousins feel they are part of a team and enjoy the comraderie.

Winter swim teams still have relays, team building activities, and cheering for each other. Doesn’t count?

Depends on the swim team. Summer swim teams and high school teams where they score the meets - yes. Winter swim teams were everyone is just trying to lower times for meet qualifying times - no.
