No, my kids do not play at his home and have never set foot inside his house or go anywhere with him when we visit his state (Florida) when he is armed. We made this clear when we had our first baby and he chose his gun over his grandchildren. He must leave his gun at home when he comes to visit us so he has only seen our home once in his sorry life.
I think most of the asshats who home carry do it proudly and admit it, at least.
Same for those who keep a handgun on their nightstand.

My kids are too young for drop off play dates but the older one can play unattended with a friend while I and the other parent drink coffee in the kitchen, play with the baby, etc. so I ask. So far no one has said they have guns. If they did, we’d decline or ask to host. I’m happy to host that child or family every time.

We have guns. Dh is military. THey are locked up and I don’t know the combo and bullets are in a separate safe. Please ask. We will tell you and show you (the parent not the kids) the safe etc. if that still makes you uncomfortable that’s fine and my kid will ply at your house instead.

Yes, DH has a job that requires him to carry a firearm home every day. He stores the gun in a safe, unloaded, and the ammunition in a separate lock box on the top shelf of the garage before he comes into the house. We explain this to parents and understand 100% if they prefer to not allow their child to come over.
makes sense. my FIL has a couple of guns (that I've never seen him use). they're in a safe, unloaded, in the back of the garage. the ammo is locked away separately. I *hate* guns, but haven't felt unsafe bringing my daughter into their house. of course, it helps that I know them and I know he would never be irresponsible with them.

If I know they have guns, I’ll ask how they are stored. As long as they are stored safely, I don’t have an issue.
I haven’t asked a new acquaintance if they have guns, mostly because I’m always there with my kids. But now that my kid is getting old enough to do solo play dates, I should start asking. I’d rather have an awkward 2 minute conversation than have a gun accident happen.

yeah, this is what worries me. who's going to say, "oh yeah, I'm pretty lax about my guns. I leave them around."

if you haven't been to the house before/the family is new to you, do you ask whether there are guns? if the family has guns, do you still let your kid play at that house?
