A student who requests a transfer for the AP or IB program must commit to the advanced academic program for grades 9, 10, 11, and 12:
a.
Each student must take a minimum of four AP or IB classes over the four years, with at least three by the end of the junior year.
b.
Each student is expected to pursue a schedule of prerequisite courses for each program in the ninth and tenth grade years.

Thank you. I guess my question is does the counselor determine who he/she thinks will be successful in the program or is it up to the student/parent to decide. My son has high hopes and would probably think he could do it, but a counselor may have a different opinion. Just trying to understand the process.

It is up to student/parent. The counselor may have input. Suggestion...look at the AP courses DC is interested in and the prerequisites...the remaining courses can be honors.

It just depends upon whether there is space at the AP school and whether your son commits to taking the minimum number of honors and AP classes in high school. They don't screen based on past grades.

Are you using Chrome, Firefox or Safari as your web browser?

Did you check dashboard recently. Quite a few high schools have switched to closed in the past few weeks. Otherwise, call FCPS

I want to request a transfer for my child who is an 8th grader to a different school for 9th grade in fcps for curricular reasons. The school is open to transfers. I thought the transfer process for that was already open. However, when I click on my child's name - it won't let me select anything. The computer seems to think that he isn't eligible for any transfers. I am guessing this is because he is currently listed in middle school (8th grade). But, by the time the high school has him in the system, transfers could be closed or filled.

Is this a system glitch that needs to get fixed --- 8th graders should be able to request transfers for high school before the high school officially puts them in sis at being at that school? Or am I missing something that I was suppose to do before the online form so that it would allow my 8th grader to request a transfer for 9th grade?
