Zenni has done an amazing job with my high index lenses. I was skeptical at first about ordering glasses online but I am a huge fan of theirs now.

I am not a “Prada” person, but I adore my Prada frames. I get compliments on them all the time and they are very nice quality. I know that half of what I paid for is the name stamped on the side, but I also have a second pair of frames that I bought at the same time, from the same place for half the price Kerf Frameworks, a danish brand with a good reputation...the Prada ones are nicer.

My dad was a -10 and wasn’t a candidate for lasik but recently did lends replacement surgery to fix a small cataract that was forming. He’s been AMAZED that one eye is 20/20 and the other is 20/25.

I saw someone recently in Kate Spade frames that were cute - she says she didn't have high myopia but just liked the frames (they were a similar size to mine).

Thanks all - great options. Expense is not an issue at this point. It's my eyes + most important "accessory" that I will likely wear daily so don't mind spending a lot - it's cheaper than lasik anyway (which I'm not a candidate for due to thin corneas).

I've been wearing my contacts too much - I don't sleep in them and never have, but again, after 30 years of pretty much daily contacts my eye dr. wants me to cut down on lens wear. I can still wear them but I really want to make a point of giving my eyes a break 2-3 days a week at least. I believe my glasses script is -11 so pretty high - hence not being able to choose any cute frame.

I will def check out these places. Keep recs coming! I'm in DC and N VA a lot for work and live close in montgomery county so will travel anywhere!

My RX is -6.00, so I'm bad but might not as bad as you. I've had success at Costco b/c I know the tricks for picking a frame to fit your face. At Costco, they don't help you find your frame but the price is great and they're incredibly patient with adjustments. I'm very particular about how my glasses sit on my face and they've gotten them just right for me. I go to the Costco in Fairfax / West Ox Road.

I got a pair that I love by Barton Perriera at iDocOptical downtown. I'm pretty sure that I got 1.74 high index and my RX is -13.5 for glasses. The lenses are amazing (they were sent to a lab in Germany) and the frames are also great. I would highly recommend.

Lens Crafters are crazy expensive. You can buy Warby Parker frames and take them somewhere else but I agree with the PP that smaller frames are best as the larger you go the thicker the lens is. I have gotten mine at costco, fancy glasses stores (don't think they are any better), and a few other places. I found a pair last time at Vision Works but they only had one size and it was too big so I got it off of Amazon and took it for lenses somewhere else.

Try lenscrafters. They really have a good selection. Because of your prescription they will send them out to get the lenses (they are not made in store).

You will probably want to go with a smaller frame

What exactly is your prescription?

I went to a Korean place in Annandale called Design Optical Center. I have around a -10 script and they offer 1.74 Seiko high index lenses, as well as regular 1.74 lenses. I think the regular ones were $200 and the Seiko were $275. I chose the Seiko and they are the thinnest ones I’ve ever had. I was so impressed.

The negatives- I think you have to see their optometrist if you want more of a guarantee they will work with you if the script isn’t quite right. Also, their English isn’t that great but they do have one woman (Debbie, I think) who speaks better English. And finally, I didn’t find the frames to be particularly inexpensive.

I will definitely return- those lenses...I still can’t get over how thin.

I really can't get the cute Warby Parkers etc. that everyone raves about - I have very high myopia so need special lenses and frames. After 30 years of contacts, I want to upgrade my glasses and give my eyes a rest by wearing (hopefully cut) glasses out more often.

Right now I have a Michael Kors pair that are okay but I'd love to be able to have a bigger choice. I also would like someone who can help fit them to my face. The ones I have are big and I push them up a lot - fine for home but annoying when I'm out.

Any great eye glasses places in the area with a big selection? Online won't work for all my needs. TIA!
