Which AP physics?

Do you really think your kid has learned all of physics after a non-calculus honors based physics?

My kid is in his second year of AP Physics. He'll take more when he gets to college. I have to say, he's learning a lot.

Is your child's interest in comp sci, just getting off the ground or are they thinking of heading to a selective comp sci school like Carnegie Mellon?

If they are trying to go to a selective school, they need all the rigor they can get.

What does your child want to major in? If engineering, absolutely take AP Physics C, if available and your child has taken (or is in BC Calculus), otherwise AP Physics 1. If your child is applying to engineering programs, they need to get a taste of what that first physics course in college is going to be like and make sure they are prepared for it. If your child is interested in sciences, but not necessarily engineering, I would check the specific programs to see what the freshman courses are. AP Physics would be useful, but not critical IMO. If your child is not interested in engineering or a science field, there's no need for more advanced physics.

child is in 11 grade and taking honors physics in 11th grade.
he/she submitted course selection for 12th grade (AP physics is not one of them)
Student has completed AP classes in math, chemistry and computer science.

school guidance counselor emailed back advising that student should plan to enroll for AP physics in 12th grade.
(no reason provided in email)
However, student wants to avoid AP physics as he/she already completing honors physics.

would it be dumb decision to not opt for AP Physics in 12th grade?
what could be the reason why any student would take both honors physics and AP physics?
does this impact college admission or major (computer science) selection?
