I can't comment on Oakton, but at Madison, in the honors assembly, about 1/4th of the school was invited to attend. This was for kids with 4.0 and above. Of those, about 1/4th were all A's. So 1/16th of the school got all A's.

(My DD did not get all A's).

We would have put him in regular English but only Honors is offered. He is strong in math/science so definitely wants to take honors in those.

FWIW, we found that AP World History was better at teaching writing than any English class my DCs took. To prepare for that, I would suggest Honors World History in 9th grade. The type of writing is also helpful when they get to the essay on the SAT.

Unless your kid is Asians, it is perfectly normal not getting Straight A's

Even if they are, it is not the norm.

I have heard that Oakton does alot of grade inflation, so might not be a bad idea to take all honors for the gpa bump

Yes, all Honors. He should try to do all Honors sounds like he can handle it. In sophomore year they have an AP History with honors English combined. I guess in terms of a weighted GPA hopefully it will all work out. All this talk of getting into a good college these days...

And Asians aren’t benefiting from all that work.

Your children are in the vast vast majority. It is okay.
