He always farted in his sleep. You’re getting old and becoming a lighter sleeper, so it’s waking you up now.

He knows how he would respond if you were farting in your sleep, because you do fart in your sleep. He’s been there. He just noticed it and came to terms with it when you were young and less angry about everything and assumed you were on the same page.

DH and I have been married 20 years. Nightly, for the last 6 months or so, DH has been farting in his sleep. Not genteel farts (if there's such a thing) but underwear rippers that reek. They're big enough that when he farts, it's either loud enough to wake me up or rancid enough that I'm jolted from my sleep. To add to my disgust, he's laying on his side so that I am directly blasted. I do NOT wake up happy and understanding.

I have asked him to be mindful of what he eats, not to eat after 8PM, take some Beano and, on his own, he's been chewing fennel before bed. It either doesn't work or he's not being truthful about what he's doing to alleviate the problem. He claims that if it were me farting in bed, it wouldn't bother him (yeah, right). I get that, on occasion, accidents happen but when you're disgusting your partner on a nightly basis AND interrupting her sleep, something needs to change. DH will go sleep on the couch after the damage is done. Sometimes, even the dog is disgusted by him letting them rip while he's on the couch and will go sleep somewhere else. If the dog reacts that way, you gotta know it's not just me.

What does DCUM think? Any suggestions?
