Ivymount's multiple learning needs program would be perfect for this profile. But it's hideously expensive, so you'd need to talk to a lawyer about your chances for funding.

Does his IEP not extend into middle school? My son has some of the same issues and we extended his IEP for middle school and beyond if necessary, so that he doesn't fall between the cracks. We are in Virginia, and the team at his school worked it this way on purpose with my input for his convenience.

I just saw the second post about social issues. Auburn integrates social skills into their curriculum. I saw it first hand when I went to visit and it was very well done.

Take a look at Auburn in Herndon. They have a system for placing kids in appropriate groups for certain subjects. Many people talk about how they can advance kids who are very bright but I'm pretty sure they can also deal with kids who are behind especially because of ADHD. Lots of kid with ADHD at that school.

OP here. Thanks for these recommendations. DS does have behavior issues. Doesn't have any friends because he's behind (I'm not sure if it's IQ or executive functioning but he doesn't "get" things and doesn't pick up on any social cues)

I should have mentioned in my OP, that we are more worried about him socially and being able to learn appropriate responses, behaviors, etc. in real life situations. His public school has been excellent so far in guiding him academically and a bit socially, but we are worried that once in middle school, it'll be a rat race and he'll not know how to navigate.

If anyone has any other suggestions, please send them along.

Also, is there a consultant (that isn't hugely expensive) that specializes in these sorts of things? Maybe someone who can read his IEP, talk to us, to him, maybe observe (or whatever) and suggest some schools that would be a good fit?

Can anyone recommend a private school for our ADHD boy with LDs and slight cognitive delay? When we search for privates for SN and particularly ADHD, the schools we find tend to be for kids that are bright, academically on target (or above) and/or gifted.

Ours is behind by several grades and it takes him a long time to learn. We are thinking that even with all the extra sped teachers and classes, he will have a much harder time entering middle school so we thought we'd look to see if there are any privates that might be a good fit for him.

Any suggestions? We are in VA, but are willing to travel if there is before and after care (also that could accommodate him).
