Something is wrong with this $70 million number.

Georgetown Prep spent just (?) $23 Million in 2006 and got an athletic Taj Mahal.

There's just no way that you can spend $70 Million on just an athletic facility.

It's not about the level of competition (though they increase that level every year), but about giving every student a chance to play and participate at whatever they would like to do. They don't have the space to do that now. This is just a way better to provide for their very well-rounded student body.

As a Holton parent with a terrible gym, congrats. I am truly jealous.

The elites have plenty of capitalists. But thanks for trying.

As a parent considering the school, would you say that those who cannot do this are left out socially or otherwise? I mean, we would be full pay, but really just barely. There is no way we'd be throwing $10k around.

Not that I'm well versed in typical construction costs around here, but $70m seems an awful lot for a gym.

You'll be fine. For every Ted Leonsis - whom I have come across in work, charity events and their lovely children - there are families like you.

I am grateful for the donors - heavy hitters in tech, A&D, investment mgmt. Wouldn't blink to invite them over to my tiny colonial (except they are very busy working, running companies).

Great school, work hard culture, open minded, sweet kids. I guess in contrast to some of the DC super liberal schools with a preference for the community activist and academic elite, here you just might get a dose of capitalism and entrepreneurialism. (GASP!)

I think it is awesome when they do this stuff, they don't just do it for athletics but for science labs etc.

As a parent of a current student at Potomac school, I am so grateful that my child has a great education and social skills at Potomac school. No, you do NOT have to donate 10K. You contribute whatever you can, no pressure. There are enough wealthy donors for the school.

+1 from another Potomac parent and moderate donor
