I really thought this was a joke.. parents providing snacks to 18+ yr olds? And we wonder why kids graduate from college and move home because they are incapable of caring for themselves.

As far as game attendance. Like anything if you can make and and want to attend do it. Otherwise pick and choose which ones to attend.

You are serious? This is a thing? My kids haven't been on teams that had post-game snacks since they were 8 or 9. This can't be real.

UMD marching band (at least this was the case for home games a few years ago when a relative attended.) The parents made breakfast for the band members before games.

Ivy League School - a women’s team - I’ll leave it at that.

This is a joke right? My parents never saw me compete in college. There was no chance they could even afford to visit once. My young relative just walked on to a D1 crew, and the school is really close to where parents live and, no, this does not happen.

OP - I’m talking snacks and potentially(often) full meals provided by parents for the whole team - (not just your kid) and expected by team at every game no matter what the location.

My kid plays soccer for a D3 school. We try to get to the weekend games that are drivable, so 4-5 games per season. It seems most parents are like us - if the game is close to home (maybe 45 minutes for a weeknight game, up to a few hours for a weekend game) they'll come but no one is flying to games with any sort of regularity. Maybe it's different for D1.

We'll bring/buy her food if we are there.

We had a D1 kid and made every game, some out of state. I shipped goody boxes to him at his dorm. Never at any game.

I was a D1 athlete from 2006-2010. My parents lived 2 hours away and made it to about half of my meets. They never brought me snacks.

This really caught me off guard this year. My DS walked onto the soccer team at his school this fall as a freshman -- and as it turns out parents show up at games even though this is a top 25 school with a geographically diverse student body!

My best friend also has a daughter on a D1 volleyball team and those parents also largely show up at each game. They all know each other well and get together before and after games.

I thought I was done after high school but I'm definitely clearing my schedule to go to soccer games next fall!

I was a D1 athlete and not one single parent did this. However, this was the early 2000’s.

I was also a D3 coach, up until two years ago, and we bought snacks with the team budget. One kid’s parents always brought cookies and brownies. He was a local kid and I think she just liked to bake.

There was none of this signup ridiculousness or “it’s your turn.”

Are D1 - D III parents really expected to fly in and attend all of the games so that they can provide drinks and snacks?
