Disagree on shaving down. Shave against the grain, it lifts and pulls the hair resulting in a closer shave and les chance of ingrowns.

Where dad is and what his role should be is really an entirely separate thread. Right now I just want to know what I should do if I have to teach him.

Do adult men have a preference - wet shave or electric razor? Is it just a personal thing? Or is one better than the other?

Right now DH doesn't have a lot of acne - just sometimes around his nose, so I don't think shaving will really bother it. But, if acne gets worse, I guess an electric razor is easier. Should I just let him try both and decide what he likes? Right now he has not very thick growth, but it is dark, so noticeable on his lip.

And about electric shavers - some of them are very expensive! I really can't afford $150, so I'm assuming a cheap one will be just fine?

And really, it's not a big deal. Shaving cream and razor. Like you do on your legs. You can easily teach him.

Don’t go the electric shaver route and teach him how to take care of his face at an early age.

I remember watching the Johnny Carson Tonight Show back in 1975 (photographic memory). He had a Hollywood Dermatologist on as a guest and another guest him why adult men don’t have acne? The dermatologist said men get a facial daily by hot water, shave cream, exfoliating with a razor and then moisturizer (after shave).

How can washing shaving and moisturizing you face not be good for him.

we got the fusion at first, but it was too big and bulky for our 13 yo at the time. we have the mach 3 for when he's ready for that. the peachfuzz is a lot different than a man's stubble. we got our son one of those grooming pens (the kind that grooms eyebrows, ears, nose hairs) and basically he uses that to shave his tiny mustache. it works just fine for now. at first he needed to shave like once a month, now it's a couple of times a week. haven't tried the electric razor.

Don’t go cheap on a razor/blades. Dollar shave and whatever the other similar brand target sells suck.

Also when it comes time to start manscaping knowing how to handle and regular razor will come in handy.

A good electric razor is the way to go. They aren't expensive. Maybe $20? I think the last one my husband bought when his died was about 20.

I bought a rechargeable electric razor. I think I bought it at Target.

You don't need anything fancy or complicated in the beginning. An inexpensive double-edged disposable with a pivoting head and some gel-based shaving cream is more than fine. The only trick is to be sure to shave with the grain (down) as opposed to up like you may do with your legs.

Why not get him a good eletric razoer like a Braun?

Ask his father. If money is not issue take him to Art of the Shave in Tyson’s mall. The will give him a barber shave and sell him the best products.

If money is a issue buy him a can of shaving cream and a $5 multi blade disposal razor. Wet face lather up and gently glide razor downward on face. Have you ever shaved any part of your body?
