Also went to the Wheaton open house and I didn't realize they were offering this.

Is the Northwood Program aimed at students who are already on track to go to a decent college? Or, is it to encourage kids who might not otherwise be able to attend college? do the credits transfer to schools outside the U of Md system? I apologize if the link answers these questions. I can't get it to open for some reason.

Is this a reaction to the fact that kids are now taking APs as freshman and colleges are realizing that they are not college equivalents? Now they have to actually take college classes.

The letter my Wheaton kid received yesterday refers to the Early College program (not the one you linked to above). It says if a child qualifies (GPA, appropriate SAT, ACT or accuplacer score), they may enroll in college classes for high school credit. Here is a link:

My letter said the program was onsite at select high schools. I am not aware of it at Blair.

My sophomore received a letter today. She’s at Wootton. The letter mentioned classes can be taken at the high school or college. I’m very interested in learning more so I will likely call.

Wheaton is offering it. Northwood's emc2 (sp?) program is different in that kids end up with an associates degree.

Gaithersburg offers a dual enrollment program called College Institute. Some courses are taught at GHS, or students may travel to MC for others. https://sites.google.com/a/mcpsmd.net/ghs-college-institute2018/home

We also received that letter. Ours says that the classes would take place at the high school and included the name and contact info of the coordinator.

I got a letter from MCPS that my kid is eligible to take college classes while still in high school. For those whose kids have done this, can you describe what classes they did and what their experiences were? I'm not sure it's worth the disruption in the day but I'm sure I'm missing something.
