It is old. Currently, there are something like 20 portables?
And there is no gym. Kids will have PE in a tiny portable.
I live in this neighborhood. The North Lake Center is the holding school on Bauer Drive. It was a functional ES 30 some odd years ago. Barnsley is currently in there. Looks like Maryvale will be moving in next. There are a HUGE number of portables and no gym as the PP said. The school is small (originally built for the tiny neighborhood it's in (to house 300 kids max I believe). A couple of years ago I went to a meeting there where the county talked about wanting to renovate the holding center to accommodate other schools moving in (for their own renovation). As the county estimated a huge increase in number of students in the next 20 years. I do not know what the status of that is (never heard any more about it). I do remember it included a second story, a new gym and an expanded driveway to accommodate the buses.
It is absolutely less than ideal. Yet one more example of how MCPS can’t handle the students that it currently has. When MCPS puts forth ideas like Universal pre-K, it is maddening, because we don’t even have appropriate facilities for the students who are currently enrolled!
We were at North Lake when Wheaton Woods was undergoing renovation.
Like the PP said, the school is meant for about 300 kids max. Barnsley has about 700 kids. It’s ridiculous.
I’m sure it’s very frustrating for the people who live in that neighborhood. The car pool is not large enough. The bus loop is not large enough.
