This was me a year ago.
Done with kids and youngest in elementary, plus I was recuperating from the effects of surgery for a newly diagnosed chronic disease... and suddenly I REALLY REALLY needed a puppy. It took me a year to persuade my husband and find a reputable breeder. The dog is both a surrogate baby and a therapeutic tool for my disease.
A male friend of mine had a rough time a few years ago, and the same thing happened - as soon as he emerged, he got himself a young dog. His one and only child was in elementary as well.
And around the school yard, it never fails: as soon as the youngest is old enough, families get puppies left and right.
Haha. This is definitely me. When my youngest was in first I got the puppy bug. He is a great dog and I am glad he joined us but I am sure it was because we no longer had a little one.
