begging for donations for a school trip for a competition is a bit different than a teen begging for money on facebook.

"hey folks, we all now my b-day is coming up, and the one gift I really really want is a pair of christian louboitins for the spring formal, and cash/gift cards, as a gift would go a long way to helping me reach this goal.

Yeah, one is more up front and honest, the other is disguising a luxury trip as a "school trip," a "charitable mission," or whatever...

Facepalm. Where'd we go wrong with this one?

It sounds like a funny joke. It’s not like she posted her routing number or anything.

So many people are doing this now. On your birthday facebook asks you if you want to set up a fundraiser for your birthday, I don't know exactly how it works but it seems like just a couple of clicks and boom facebook is telling your friends about it. I've seen it come up a few times for friends who I guess clicked to set it up on their birthdays.
I just ignore it but maybe it's "the thing to do" for the younger crowd. Who knows. Just some silly facebook thing OP, I wouldn't worry about it.

What gumption! And it's hilarious.

You can tell her it's not appropriate and that she has to take it down.

But hopefully that nerve will serve her well in the future, for more mature pursuits.

I kinda like her sense of humor OP! Also, if I were her Auntie, I would get the hint that it's time to switch to cash for birthday presents.

was it a joke or did she actually link something

If the former it’s in poor taste but whatever
