Why can't Walter Johnson or Richard Montgomery cluster go there. Is it considered elite wealth only? I agree. I would never bus my kid to Barnsley fighting with 4 clusters when there is a CES right down the street at low capacity but only taking two schools. Pretty pathetic.

Cold Spring has the highest median scores for all three sections of HGC tests among all CESs. Kids can get into Barnsley may not get into the waitlist pool for Cold Spring. Don't be a sour grape.

Give me a break. This has everything to do with the wealthy and $$ spent on tutors and test prep and nothing more.

Peer group baby, just keep those Cold Springs kids together and it will all be fine, right MCPS?

There is a meeting Wednesday night at Richard Montgomery High School. It is live-streamed, so not crucial to attend unless you have questions you want to ask in-person.

Wow... interesting note at the bottom of that PDF in regards to the local centers.

*Students are ineligible to be considered for the regional centers.

I rather that then driving from Walter Johnson ES area to Lucy Barnsley. That is ridiculously too far. Why does 2 schools only hold two high school clusters and others hold 4. That doesn’t seem right.

The 4 HS centers have spaces for a larger number of students.

Not necessarily. The center at Drew draws from four high schools and has only two classrooms.

Another possible factor in the number of classrooms is the presence/absence of local centers in the clusters served by the regional center. I think Stonegate is a local center in one of the clusters served by Drew.

I was going to watch the meeting online but have decided to go to RM instead in person. I think it'd be nice for MCPS to see lots of parents interested in these centers and see the demand for them.

Either because the 2-school centers have larger high schools or because they have more super-bright kids.

Well, yeah. That's the point. It's probably watered down (how could it not be?) but more kids get to do it, so you win some you lose some.

Anyone know when we are suppose to know if our kids were invited to take the testing for CSES? My 3rd grader hasn't received anything from school, and I have not received anything in the mail. Perhaps we are not invited?
