What's so special about you, OP? Eat and drink whatever you want. Is someone forcing you to do otherwise? No one really gives a $hit.

Here is an article from October 2016 about "How to live to 100: Town full of centenarians spills its secrets"

http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/21/health/how-to-live-to-100-acciaroli-centenarians/index.html

This is really funny:

"The fact is, Italians have an already healthy average life span of 82 years. Italians do like their fresh fruits and vegetables, and in my humble opinion are some of the most food-obsessed people on earth. Food -- where it's bought, how it's prepared and how it's eaten -- is a favorite topic of conversation."

I will give another example. There are populations across the world that live longer and healthier lives than other populations. An area in the Mediterranean in Crete is one population. Their health is a combination of their diet, their mobility (walking around a lot), and their community support.

Where in China, India, or Central or South America do you have scientific research or evidence that there are populations thriving well past 100 years of age?

It's a marketing gimmick to tout the benefits of Eastern and third world diet and exercise more than it is scientific reality. Than, we're taught about how any nutritious food staples like tea, actually were "stolen" from Eastern cultures by the colonization of the Western cultures. And, so what? Maybe when the Western Europeans colonized sections of the East and the Americas, ideas and food staples were subsumed. However, they were made distinctly Western European.

I have not noticed this. Current fads like intermittent fasting and paleo do not have Eastern or "third world " origins. Also, there are plenty of indulgent foods in every culture. You really think we are the only ones who eat ribs and sweets?

Beef? Sure they have plenty of beef in China but they eat a whole lot more pork.. like orders of magnitudes more. I travel to China at least once a year, and beef hasn't been hugely popular.

I know Americans are obese. However, it's mostly from pre-packaged food and fast food. If Americans would cut back on the pre-packaged and refined carbs in food and cut back on the drive-through and 7-11 foods, and eat more nutritious food, then they we wouldn't be obese as a country.

What I've noticed is Americans who readily accept that Eastern cultures and traditions or those from third world countries are better (and smarter) than us. Are we blindly starting to follow down a path where we no longer enjoy the richness of Western traditions, such as delicious liqueur, cakes and pies and cookies and other desserts? We shouldn't enjoy BBQ ribs and a cold brew? I won't be giving up any of that food. It's really all about moderation.

I don't want to eat food with intermittent fasting from rice bowl to rice bowl just because some one thinks that Eastern and ancient civilization cultures are smarter than Westerners. No thank you.

I agree that it's all about moderation, whether you are eating ribs or salad. I do not understand the rest of your post, if only because one "diet" that people consistently use to lose weight is a Mediterranean diet that is heavy on seafood and vegetables over red meat and heavy starches. I don't know what your definition of "Western" is, but I would include Italy and Greece in it personally.

LOL. Americans are the only people who try to lose weight by eating more (i.e., diet food). Eating less is not acceptable.

Then don't. There, I've solved your problem!

To answer your question, no, I have not noticed anyone being "bombarded" with any kind of information from the East or third world countries. Can you site an example? Most people I know are doing keto or paleo, neither of which came from third world or Eastern origins.

Um no. In fact it’s the opposite. Obesity and heart disease is on the rise in China pretty much due to increased beef and sugar consumption. Enjoy what you want and practice moderation. But don’t overestimate the very very powerful food lobbies (meat and dairy and corn) and all the advertising that comes with it. Remember the low fat craze and how fat was replaced with sugar. It’s now clear that there is no benefit from that and in fact he opposite. Still tons of 0% yogurt on the shelves and fat free cookies.
