We also live EoTR, in Ward 7, and we've been going to open houses and scheduling individual school tours with all the schools around us - charters and dcps. It's so much more helpful to see schools in person and to interact with the teachers/principals. I think there are some good choices EoTR. The neighborhood education councils are also useful sources of info. Good luck!

Thank you for your advice!

I thought long and hard about ITS using the metro and ultimately turned down a K spot. But it's worth thinking about and at least doing the walk from Rhode Island Metro to see if it might work for you. Great school!

Also the KIPPs.

Finally, I am skeptical about Rocketship due to the overreliance on technology, but I think it's definitely worth exploring that option. Maybe it's better than it seems!

OP says they drive and DON"T use metro.

Thank you for your response! We drive and don’t metro I guess I should have added that. Van Ness is our first choice so far but I know that’s a long long shot.

I would check out the new Stokes and Tyler if you're into languages. Van Ness might be possible. Seaton would be doable on the Green Line if you metro. Maybe Two Rivers Young?

If you were to play the lottery for K and lived east of the river, in Anacostia, what schools would you play for? One spouse works from home. One spouse works at the Navy Yard. Drop offs and pick ups aren't a problem if they aren't TOO far from ward 6. Child is currently at Eagle Academy Capitol River front and we would stay there if we didn't get a spot anywhere else.

I'm just curious what schools you all would list and in what order.
