Oh sure it's great. As long as you don't have doubts, aren't gay or are brown skinned.


+1 I've met some Mormons that I've loved, and some who are close-minded and bigoted. Just like all religions-there are good apples and bad apples.

i think as a proportion of the population it does.


BYU has a big campus there, so it's possible the OP was near that campus, too.

Those who really care about you will be ok, if not upset. The church will not let you go quietly.

Ok first, Hawaii does have large Mormon population but it is nothing compared to Idaho, Wyoming and Arizona. JFYI.

As a fellow Catholic I like Mormons too. They aren't trying to suck me in. I like their focus on family and their devotion to their communities. Many Protestants believe that Catholicism is a cult like the Mormons so we got that going for us too.

And Under the Banner of Heaven is about the FLDS.

I love a Mormon, my DH, pioneer stock even. But he's not active in the church at all and hates it. His family moved from the east coast back to Utah when he was a teen and he hated it and their compulsion to force everyone to act the same way. That syrupy sweetness with the force-fed life choices leads to life-long depression for many, many people.

Agree with everything you said. But for all the respect toward mothers, you can't say the same for the LGBT community. And I have a problem with that.

I had a lovely Mormon friend growing up. She answered questions as her religion as they came up, but she never proselytized. She was sweet and considerate. However, I think only Mormons got to be part of her very inner circle of friends--the rest of us were kept just on the outside.
