I was telling a friend that I've had several Uber drivers who made me feel uncomfortable, and she said there are services that have female drivers and will only pick up females. I forget what she said the name was, but definitely look into those.

Unless you are dropping her off 20 minutes before the school opens the doors, it seems ridiculous. My son takes a bus to public school and it drops him off 35 to 40 minutes before classes start. It's fine - he just hangs out with his friends.

I don't mind him using Uber and Lyft occasionally, but not on a daily basis for his convenience.

+1. She already has a perfectly fine ride. Uber (or a bus for that matter) would probably get her there 5 to 10 minutes early anyway.

Suck it up buttercup. She'll be driving before you know it and then she can worry about getting herself to school.

Why can't she use public transportation?

It’s a private school that has never said anything on the matter but dd claims to know kids who use Uber to and from.

Lots of high schoolers use Uber, including my DS (16). He even has his own account. Yes it is against their policy, but we have never had a problem with it. It is super convenient.

I’ve decided to let my 10th grader try Lyft, but haven’t had the occasion for it to happen. It makes me nervous, but she’ll be driving by herself next year.

Yes. I've sent an Uber to pick my 9th grader up a couple of times.

*For safety purposes I tell her to make a show of taking a pic of the license plate when the car pulls up, and then getting in, saying hi, and saying into the phone "I'm texting you the license plate right now." I follow the car's path on the Uber app.

Hell no. Use a local cab company and get to know the dispatcher and driver
There are so many illegal UBER drivers
She could be assaulted or in an accident
Lots of students on visas driving with horrific skills

few drivers would turn down your kid for a fare.

I wouldn't. Not interested in my minor child being alone in a car with a strange uber driver. With friends, yes. Alone, hell no.

I recently got a new job which is making it nearly impossible to get my daughter to school when she wishes to be there (instead of twenty minutes early).
I would love to put her in an Uber but know it is against their policy. Besides Uber's official statement, do drivers take kids? Do you have any experience with using Uber in such a manner?
