I think it is racist to assume that all black people are the same.

Black people, just like people of other races, are into different things. Not everyone embraces hip-hop culture.

There are black people who like to dress preppy, who voted for Trump, who do yoga and drink kombucha. They are not a monolith like Democrats like it to be. I've met a fair share of conservative black people, black people who traveled the world, black people with PhD, black people who are stereotypically portrayed in movies, black people who can speak multiple languages. Once people learn to think for themselves, they can be anything and like anything and not be afraid to show it. Unfortunately, there is a "crab in a bucket" mentality in the black community, which makes it hard for some people in terms of breaking away and going their own way.

I remember when that handbook came out. I wanted to be preppy so badly but couldn't afford the clothes and was quite heavy. Not a lot of plus size preppy stuff back in the day.

I am black. This was my jam back in the day. It's all I wanted! So yes, black people can be preppy and skinny.

Preppy to me signifies white skinny rich people. I am a minority. I always think it’s hard to wear preppy clothes without being white or living the lifestyle.
