Assuming this is true...

Government assistance is for those who need it. When I was pregnant I was engaged to a man who made a decent amount of money (my now DH). I had just graduated grad school and was not working yet, and I was aged out of my parents' insurance. I needed it. I used it. We got married before the baby was born but back then, there was a 10 month waiting period for maternity coverage, so I stayed on the assistance throughout the pregnancy, because it allowed me to finish with the pregnancy with it.

I didn't think insurance could mandate that waiting period anymore, but if so, and if you can't add her instantly with pregnancy coverage, take the damn assistance for your daughter! Because she needs it!

If you are supportive with allowing her to live with you and helping to provide care/coverage, she can continue with school. She'll need a semester off. The best gift you can give her is to allow her to continue her education as planned and stepping in to help care for the child while she's at school or studying some of the time. Yes, she'll have to figure out how to multitask and give up some social things to become a mom. But she can do it.

Also, termination is absolutely an option. Personally, at 18 that's where I'd be headed and what I'd encourage my daughter to do, but not everyone is on the same page with that.

The insurance will cover her till 26, but it doesn't her kids.

Why would you have to tell people?

My second child was born under our state Medicare, fully paid for, and no one knows.

How could this possibly come up conversationally?

Health insurance doesn't cover an adult dependent's pregnancy. Some employer coverage might, but it's not required.

Go get her insurance. Don't be lazy.

The simple solution is for her to get an abortion. Probably about $500.

What is your concern? Your friend's opinions don't matter.

Does your daughter intend to keep the baby? What are the father's thoughts so far?

So much more to think about than telling anyone that Medicare might be needed.

Why won't insurance cover it? I've never heard of an insurance that won't cover a normal pregnancy. As for Medicaid, why on Earth would you have to tell anyone?
