I'd get the 2011, for the safety equipment, if there is a huge difference. But I'd take the owner up on the ability to go get it checked out first.

It's a no brainer. The 2009 one. The 2011 has been driven a lot (18k miles/yr).
Have you taken a look at the Kelly Blue Book values? Both are basically the same, but the point is the owner sells his 2011 car at a dealership price. If you like it so much, ask him to come down at least $1k.

OP here: The safety ratings are slightly higher in 2011. It's also more attractive.

2011 Hyundai Sonata 110 k miles. Sky blue colour. The owner is willing to let us take it to Hyundai dealership to get it checked out before we buy. He's willing to come down in price if it needs repairs. They're selling because they had a baby recently and bought an SUV. I met the owners in front of their home.
2009 Hyundai Sonata 51 k miles. Grey. We found this car at a small dealership. It was picked up at an auction. 1 owner. Clean Carfax.
Both cars are 7k.
We currently drive a 2004 Hyundai Sonata with 165k miles. Is it smarter to go with the car with lower miles?
