I came here to ask a drop off question. Just got an invite for six year old party that says "drop offs welcome." Does that probably mean "we prefer that you drop of your child but you can stay if you must"? We don't know the parents more than in passing, but it's a kid who has recently become my child's main recess buddy. All other class parties have had parents stay so far.

M
They don't want you to stay.

Other ideas:

- make your own cupcakes - give them tons of topping stuff and a few frosting options (you've already premade the cupcakes) and let them decorate, similarly make your own pizza, make your own tacos, etc...
- musical chairs
- scavenger hunt in teams (if you have an adult to assign to each team)
- do a pj/movie party - kids come in pjs, have popcorn and cake while watching a 90 minute age appropriate movie.

Don't worry, we wouldn't be coming if it was a drop off or primarily drop off where you make it clear that parents are ok to come but not really welcome. So, you wouldn't actually have 10 kids. Problem solved. I don't leave my child at a strange house with people I don't know.

OP here and now I'm actually getting excited for this... so many great ideas and advice! Thank you!!!

In answer to the PP about "drop offs welcome" - I think it means that drop-offs are preferred, but that you can stay if you feel more comfortable or think your child would be more comfortable with you staying.

We have done the bag decorating! We used these: http://m.orientaltrading.com/emoji-laminated-tote-bag-craft-kit-a2-13770437.fltr?keyword=Bag+craft There are tons of other themes though!

We have a 6’ table that we set up, and as the girls arrived, they sat and decorated. Once they were done, we did a karaoke dance party, but a regular dance party works too! Then they had pizza and did a piñata. The candy and prizes went into the bags. Finally, they went back to the table and decorated cupcakes. Tons of sprinkles and sugar-add ons. We lined them up and they voted (paper vote, you couldn’t vote for yourself) and the winner won an emoji pillow. They all danced and listened to more music until their parents came.

Make sure you have at least two adults total for mealtime and cake. I had to fly solo this year for my daughter's 9th with 10 girls, and meal/cake time was chaotic. I hadn't even gotten pizza to all of them when some wanted a second slice, and then there were juice requests, and cake... It was easier last year when one mom stayed to help for that part.

definitely let parents know if a craft will be messy so the kids can dress accordingly.

You can state on the invite "drop off welcome or stay and hang out" and then stock some snacks/drinks for the parents. I'd be fine if parents wanted to stay and have wine or something.

1 - make it 90 minutes - by 2 hours you will be pulling your hair out.

2 - get extra hands to help with craft

3 - make sure you have extra activities planned in case it does not go as planned. Play musical chairs - have a dance party - play freeze dance (do not have a winner / tell people they are out)

4 - start with a simple activity as they arrive - maybe have a paper bag they will color / put stickers on that will be their goody bag?

5 - set guidelines - are they allowed up in bedrooms to play with toys?

6 - the minute 1 person goes to the bathroom they all will need to go - be prepared for that.

Have fun!

Disagree. If it is a drop off party, 2nrs minimum. Some parents travel 20+ minutes to party.

Perfect. My DD is 6 and has been doing drop-offs since just before she turned 4.

Freeze dance, musical chairs, Twister (no joke, they love it). Balloon races are also good at that age.

If you're going to do an art project just warn parents so they can send their kid in clothes that can get ruined.

No, it means you can drop your kid off if you want to. Six is around the age where you get both. I think they are just letting you know it is ok for you to do so.

No you will be fine. Just do some crafts. Tie dye t shirts
Paint something. You can buy cheap plates, color/paint them and then cook them to make them set. Check Pinterest.

We are planning my daughters party be dropoff. It'll be for 5/6 year olds and at the community center (roughly 2 hours). If parents want to stay they can but we're giving them the opportunity to leave.

we're having a dance party for my daughter's birthday at our house. may start with a craft activity (they can make necklaces maybe) and then we'll just have music and they can dance - maybe we'll do colored lights. If it seems like they're flagging or don't know what to do, we figure the adults there can lead them in funny dance moves, and they'll figure it out after a while. Then snacks, cake, voila!

Planning a drop-off birthday at our small home for our daughter and ten of her friends. Am I crazy? What are some good ideas for activities? Please help, I'm not particularly good at planning parties!
