You can say “my daughter likes to be called by her first initial S” if they both have the same initial

Our school has families who split days (one 3 days a week, one 2), so they wouldn't have a problem with this and you wouldn't have to lie.

If the school permits part-time enrollment, you could ask about "sharing" the week with yourself (it might still cost more than one full-time enrollment though). My daycare permits part-time enrollment if there is a matching student who wants the other days of the week.

How old are they and what are the preschool hours? Logistically how are you going to drop off and pick up without the other twin being seen. I would do one full week one twin and the following week the other twin goes to preschool. Kids forget details over the weekend so it would be less confusing for the twins than switching every other day.

Just talk to the school and say you want to share a slot with yourself.

Ha! I remember reading a story with a similar plot line when I was about 7. It was called "The Mystery of Sarabeth". The parents of twins named Sara & Beth can only afford one winter coat so they enroll the twins in school as one girl named Sarabeth so they can take turns wearing the coat to school (apparently they lived somewhere very cold & had to walk to school so a winter coat was essential). The narrator of the story was a classmate who slowly figures the twins' secret out.

Even at 7, I thought the parents were idiots for thinking they could get away with this farce!

They would have to use one name if they are supposedly one child -- that is a horrible message to send to your child, lying to gain something. And would they not be confused?

OP, a program MIGHT be willing to let you pay for one slot and have the children officially alternate in using it. Especially if it is a class where some kids come 3 days and other kids come 5 days.

I don't want an empty nest, so to speak, but I also would like them to socialize and get comfortable with going to school. Can this work? I'm not planning on telling the school because I don't want to pay for 2. Thank you.
