This is only a big deal if you get pulled over while your license is expired. And even then if you show up to court with your renewed license they will more than likely dismiss it anyways. The cop will probably even tell you that. And that is all assuming you actually get pulled over. What are the chances of that happening before you're able to renew it?

Some states have a grace period for renewals—I was at DMV last month and the person next to me had an expired license and it was not that big a deal, I think it happens a lot!

Is there a location in your area open Saturday? Cause I would go Saturday if at all possible. If not, then you should go tomorrow.

I'm white and wouldn't care too much about a ticket or fine, it's the criminal charge that freaks me out.

When I had the eyeglass requirement on my DL it was a big ordeal getting pulled over. The citation required me to appear in court. I had to retake the vision part of my exam for a new ID, paid a ticket and court fees, and told by the Judge that because I had already updated license I wouldn't receive a driving suspension. All of that because at 16 I forgot to take off my reading glasses for the driving part of my test. I was prepared for the judge to be like "Okay, you got this corrected, good girl" but instead he was like "I'm not going to excuse you from the law"

And my boss has a heart of gold but cares too much about my personal decisions. Like going to the DMV. I don't want to risk it.

Honestly, OP, your boss is probably right. If you happen to get pulled over they will -- most likely -- give you a week or so grace period. "Oh my gosh, you mean it expired on my birthday,! So sorry, officer, I had no idea."

Same thing happens at the airport with TSA. But only a week or so, not months on expiration.

It expires next week and I have to renew in person. The first available appointment is in surrounding areas are over a week past the expiration.

My boss thinks I'm being overdramatic going as a walk-in before the expiration and not taking the first available appointment. I brought up that it's a criminal offense and not just a moving a violation, she brushed it off as nobody get a criminal record because of a week gap in their renewal. She's adamant that I am unnecessarily spending hours at the DMV on a work day when I could do this on a lunch hour at the end of the month

It is a criminal offense if I'm pulled over and asked for my license, right? I thought the whole point of a background check is to monitor for criminal records... the risk seems so significant!
