16 year old DS is job searching for a summer position, but is finding limited options, given he will STILL be 16 this summer (has been told repeatedly he needs to be 18).

Wondering if parents of older children can share experiences/offer suggestions of the types of jobs their 16 year olds held over a summer break? DS is a STEM kid more than an athlete, from big family, great with children. He will have a car so is able to drive himself to any prospective place of employment.
So he is a STEM kid. Does he know how to program in Java and Python well? Does he know anything about Cyber security? Does he know how to fix or repair PC when it is not working? Does he know how troubleshoot PC system when it crashes and not working due to ransom ware and virus?

If he does, he can get a very well paid IT summer job without any problems. My company hires quite a few kids in the summer for this type of work. Good for the company PR.

Restaurant, hardware store....send him out to introduce himself to store managers with a resume. Works wonders.

When I was in high school and under 18, I worked as a camp counselor, at McDonald's, and as a supermarket cashier.

My son got hired as a camp counselor with the county (Montgomery) a couple summers ago when he was 16. He had a few summers of volunteer experience at camps. They hired a lot of counselors. You should check your county's (and city's) job websites. Either this month or next they will start posting the positions. Apply early.

Me and my friends were all lifeguards at that age - such a fun summer job (except when someone poops in the pool).

Pizza places. Answering the phone .. they sometimes don't let teenagers cook. DC has a STEM doctorate (just sayin'.. not a slacker). In early years of her resume, the job aways brought-on favorable comments. Answering the phone and being accurate is known to be somewhat stressful. Everyone can relate. Just one of many possibilities. Camp counselor?
