I want to add, we did things and saw places with the tour that we probably wouldn't have thought to do on our own, like dinner at a farmhouse in Tivoli (sp?), or private dinner with a restaurant owner in Roma. We saw a cabaret show in Paris. It was one of the best trips of my life!! And it was surprisingly affordable. I'm considering doing one with child in Asia.

I did one in Europe during college, with Cosmos. It was great! We saw 7 countries in 12 days. They organized everything, incl hotels, tours and most meals, but you still had plenty of freedom to explore on your own if you preferred. There was a porter to handle luggage. It was very elegant, and I would definitely do another one if I wanted to cover a lot of ground in a short time frame.

I'm the PP who mentioned them.

A bridge trip was one of their tours. They took my sister and her daughter on an Italy tour as a high school graduation gift. Said it was fantastic with stuff geared toward each generation.

We went on a tauck bridges trip (their family trip line) with extended family and it was amazing but it was super expensive - not something we could do if we had been paying

My folks have done Tauck tours. They are pricey, but apparently worth it . . my folks hate tours.
