+1. Catonsville PP here. I love Baltimore...LOVE it. But if you have $500k for a house then save yourself the private school tuition and find a nice house in the Ellicott City/Columbia/Catonsville area.
Commute is still horrid in Catsonville and Columbia. Well over an hour each way. No reason for OP to not live in dc suburbs.
OP's husband would only be commuting 2x a week. I'd say it's very doable in exchange for the money they'd save.

Then you get good schools (Montgomery County) and drive to Shady Grove Metro and take the metro in from there. There's also the MARC train (Brunswick line) from Germantown.

I love the MARC train. granted, I used to do it from germantown to union station and it was usually on-time or less than ten minutes late.

A $500,000 row house in Baltimore comes with a $12,000 property tax bill and no good public school options.

The Marc commute is 1.5 hours each way when you factor getting to and from station each way. That assumes no delays on the Marc. I did this commute for two years, dh works in Baltimore and I commuted to dc. Do not do it voluntarily, a three hour daily commute gets old very fast. You will be far better off in one of the more affordable dc suburbs.

I live in Catonsville, and a lot of my neighbors commute to DC via the MARC train at Halethorpe. It's a great place to live, and there are some really good public schools here as well.

MARC is great...when it's running...or is on time. It's not the best for regular commuting.
I love Baltimore, but I wouldn't want to live there. You have to do private schools, and you are limited to a couple neighborhoods.
If he only needs to commute to DC twice a week, the world is your oyster! What's your budget? I'm sure you can find something in the outer burbs.

Baltimore's a hell hole right now. Why don't you just live in the suburbs of DC? Or you could rent in DC for right now... check out two bedroom rentals in Glover Park. They are fairly reasonable.

Hi all -- DH has an opportunity to relocate to his corporate headquarters which is in downtown DC (13th and I NW). He would need to go in 2x per week and can work remotely 3x per week. DC is so expensive, but it is close to family (DH's sister lives in DC and his parents are considering retiring in the general area). We would love to move there but DC seems so expensive. We are interested in the possibility of moving to Balitmore and him taking the MARC train to DC. Is this feasible? Would we need to live downtown in order to do this or are some suburbs MARC accessible? We have 2 kids under 3.
