+1. 45 minutes is too short for ATL especially for international and especially in the summer.

Book direct with delta.

I would find an earlier flight to Atlanta. Use a different website if you aren't seeing that option. Hopefully there is a 7am departure - that would be my pick!

Morning flights are less likely to be delayed, but traveling with kids it's too tight to do i tin 45 minutes. There should be a flight to Atlanta about every hour. Why not take the 7am or 6:30am flight to Atlanta instead?

Nope. Not a chance. We had 90 mins between our flights, landed a little late, ran to our next gate, and just barely made it. No time to grab food or use the bathroom. Nightmare with our kids. Never again.

Also, pay for seats in the front of the plane and check your bags so you can get out quickly!

I would do Atalanta and feel confident that early fights in summer are not often delayed.

There's also a Spirit flight through Fort Lauderdale (reasonable layover and arrival time) but I've had a bad experience on that airline and again, get nervous.

Thanks for your input everyone. The options are:
-leave DC at 8AM, 46 minute layover in Atlanta, get to Costa Rica at a very reasonable time (will have a two hour drive from airport) IF, of course, we make the connection.

-leave DC in the afternoon, 2 hour 21 minute connection in Miami, get to Costa Rica at 11PM, wouldn't get to our condo until the middle of the night. Kids are still pretty young (8 and 5) so IDK how they'd hold up.

Ahh, dilemma.

Granted we are travelling from June so the threat of winter weather is eliminated but obviously planes still get delayed/cancelled. Hmm...

And the International terminal is allllll the way at the end and quite large. I personally wouldn't risk this.

Atlanta’s air port is HUGE. Do you know how far apart the gates are?

Yes I have. It’s fine as long as there are no delays on flight 1. And more flights going later in case you miss the 2nd leg.

I would and hope.

If there's another option that is longer and not too much more money, I'd probably do that.

That's tight. No earlier flight?

Would you do it? Traveling to Costa Rica.
