Timberline is among the more upscale ski areas close to DC.

Nothing luxury or preppy about Snowshoe

I know you said no flyiny but what about train?
Opens up most of New England and Tremblant.

Sagamore at lake George is not bad and that is only6.5-7 hour drive.

What mountain would you ski at?

Gore?

Homestead?

Luxury ski resorts don't exist that close to DC.

A couple of hours? If you're lucky or driving after midnight. Last time we drove up there it took 13 hours.

Go to Stratton. It's a couple hours past your drive time but otherwise fits your description. The town of Manchester is cute and you can stay there and drive to stratton pretty easily (15-20 mins). There are nice places at the base of Stratton too. I've stayed at the Equinox in Manchester. You can also ski Killington and stay in Woodstock although that's a longer drive. We stay at the Woodstock Inn.

I have never been to Hunter Mountain but I thought there was some kind of village there.

I would drive the 10-11 hours to Tremblant over 6-7 hour drive for someplace that is mediocre.

Has anyone been to Seven Springs recently? I went there over 10 years ago and it was kinda meh. Preferred Snowshoe.

Have never been to Camelback but wonder how it compares to Snowshoe.

The train to New England takes so long you'll wish you flew. Two days of your vacation will be nothing but travel.

The skiing can be mediocre but we want a nice resort and if we can ski out of the resort even better. One of us won't be skiing but we want kind of a luxury resort and if it has a cute preppy town thats great too. We can't fly - must be driving distance but willing to drive up to 5 or 6 hours.
